Expensive art is no longer the exclusive domain of the European countries. With the growing number of domestic millionaires and billionaires, the artists from the Asian countries are becoming well known and are able to sell their artworks in not just thousands but millions. It is no longer uncommon to see paintings by the artists either native to Asia or based out of Asia figuring in million-dollar sales figures. So much so, a Chinese artist named Qi Baishi’s 1925 painting “Twelve Landscape Screens” was sold for 931.5 Million Yuan which is roughly equivalent to $140 million. This was the biggest sale of a single painting by any Chinese artist. Below is the list of a few of the most expensive artists from Asia.

Zao Wou-ki was a Chinese artist who graduated from the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou where he studied painting. He was a member of the Académie des beaux-arts in Paris. His painting “Abstraction”, was sold for $14 million.
Lee Man Fong
Lee Man Fong was born in Guangzhou, China. He grew up mostly in Indonesia although his family moved to Singapore when he was three. His adult life passed in Indonesia. Later he returned to Singapore where he settled for rest of his life. His painting “Bali Life” was sold for $3.3 million.
Francis Newton Souza
Francis Newton Souza is credited with being the most expensive artist from India. He is from the well-known state of Goa in India. His painting titled “Birth” was sold for $4.1 million.
Tan Swie Hian
Tan Swie Hian was born in Indonesia who later settled in Singapore. He is credited with being the first living million dollar artist from Singapore. His painting “Portrait of Bada Shanren” was sold for $4.4 million.
Yayoi Kusama is one of the most expensive female artists. She is from Japan and graduated from Kyoto School of Arts and Crafts. She trained in the traditional Japanese painting style called Nihonga. Her painting White No. 28 was sold for $7.1 million.
